Kentucky – July 2024 – Nelson County, Kentucky has hosted numerous exchange students in their local high schools. The community has shown a great deal of support for ISE’s international student exchange program. Rebecca Mudd, an ISE Regional Advisor, is eager to shine a light on the experience of hosting.
Rebecca has hosted herself. During her experience in hosting a female student from Norway, she had a lot of questions starting out. With a spare bedroom in their house, they decided to host — a decision she calls the best her family has ever made. She said their student became like a big sister to her younger children and keeps in touch with her to this day.
“You’re really making someone else’s dreams come true,” Rebecca said. “These kids, that is their dream, to spend a school year in America, to be a part of an American family, to experience prom, and all the things that we just think are normal for us…It enriches our community and our local schools. What I loved when we hosted, even going to Bernheim Forest, that’s something that our family would do all the time, but you’re experiencing it from a whole new perspective.”
